Houdini

Houdini loved going on walks and long car rides with Ashley. He would sit on her lap and look out the windows, watching trees and cars pass by.

He loved taking bubble baths and stealing snacks from his people, salads, chicken, steak, grilled cheese, nothing was safe around him.

When he first joined Ashley’s family back in Boston, she was unsure what his name would be, but Houdini named himself. On the ride home he managed to unzip his carrier multiple times until he was free and settled right on Ashley’s lap where he could look out the windows.

Once home he was put back in his carrier, locked up in Ashley’s bedroom so he wouldn’t get into trouble while she went to the store to get kitten supplies. When she returned Houdini was nowhere to be found. He had disappeared and was found inside the couch. This would happen 3 more times that day.

Houdini was Ashley’s best friend and playmate, she would dress him up in doll clothes, carry him around the house, chase toys with him. When she played on the computer or gamecube he was right there with her, watching or napping.

When he was older, he had snuck out, he went on a grand adventure in the wild where he ran with a group of cats in an elderly community. He went missing for 6 months and one day he was ready to come back, waiting outside the house. The neighbor called Ashley’s mum and mum called her telling her “Your boy is waiting for you outside.” and when Ashley went out, there he was, trotting right up the steps into the house, done with his great adventure.

When Ashley moved to Canada to be with her fiancé, Cosmo, she knew she had to take her boy with her. He had been there for her in her darkest times, through heartbreaks, through school. She packed up her life and her boy and flew all the way to Newfoundland to start her new life.

Houdini was older at this point, enjoying his quiet life with his family until suddenly the house was loud and busy! Ashley and Cosmo had brought home Dust Bunny, Houdini’s new little sister who was eager to jump and play with him. Although things were tense at first, he loved watching her run around. She was there for him when he got lost, cleaned the spots he couldn’t reach, and took long naps together.

When it was his time to go Dust Bunny was by his side with Cosmo and Ashley. Now she’s there for them as they process their grief.

Houdini was the best boy, Ashley’s sweet prince, the king of the castle.. He was her best ‘Hello’ and her hardest ‘goodbye’.

Rest well sweet prince, you will always be loved and cherished, and I wish you could be here forever.

Banting was such a wonderful boy. He trotted around the house like a tiny, regal pony; his head held so high. He was one of four yorkie brothers (all named after doctors). Banting and Best had a song about them to the music of YMCA! He was loved beyond measure and memories of him will make us smile for the rest of our lives. Our sweet boy.

Penelope

There are so many. Coming home from work (or anywhere) and being greeted by her, and then going for our snuggle time before she got dinner. Falling asleep and waking up with her in my arms. Having anything to eat myself, and her meowing at me to share.
She had the best RBF. She always looked so angry, but in reality she was always purring and looking for love.
Penny was one of a kind, and I’ll never forget her.
