If you’ve ever wanted your first dog, you’ll know how this all started. As the youngest child, I begged and begged and begged for a dog. “Why would you want a dog?” people would say. “You’re terrified of them.” And to be completely honest, they weren’t wrong. I grew up afraid of dogs, and even when we brought Knight home, it wasn’t uncommon to hear me screaming because he had my pants in his mouth. He was dropped off about an hour earlier than expected, and I was by myself… panicking. Handed this floppy, massive border collie. My dad got home shortly after, and the rest was history. I don’t know if this experience influenced me winning the name battle or not, but there was a serious argument over calling him Hudson. To this day, I’m still real glad I won that one. My Jedi Knight.

Suddenly, hours were spent in our backyard, going on walks, and enjoying the fresh air—something that felt like it hadn’t been done since I was a kid. I mean, we didn’t have a clue what we were doing… and to be honest, if you look at the bed frame and door frames that got chewed up, it was kind of obvious. But the love, energy, and frustration he brought to our home was also obvious. I loved it. Over time and with some obedience training, I spent less time crying over him and more time enjoying his company. He was a great friend to have by your side, always down for anything. He was basically a “yes” dog. Whether he was watching me coach soccer games or being a menace while Nicole was rowing down at the lake he’d be there, sometimes making a scene. “I think I saw you with your dog,” or “I saw your dog with your dad” became a regular comment.

He brought so much joy to our lives and we miss him immensely. He was the best friend to our family and we’ll never forget him.
